To be a saint is to be fueled by gratitude

To be a saint is to be fueled by gratitude.
Meister Eckhard, a medieval Dominican, said that
if the only prayer we ever pray is thank you,
it is enough.
And only one kind of person transforms the world spiritually -
someone with a grateful heart.
Ingratitude is a kind of blindness,
an insensitivity, a self-centerd refusal
to see the whole of life as gift.
As we take the things of creation,
‘Fruit of the earth and work of human hands’,
we are being tutored by God,
interiorly taught to see life
as it really and simply is: sheer gift
